It states that the rights, safety and well-being of trial participants take precedence over the interests of science and society.<\/p>\n<p>This principle permeates all aspects of trial planning and conduct. It is reflected in the need for a careful benefit-risk assessment by an Ethics Committee, in the process of informed consent, in the obligation to report adverse events, and in the continuous monitoring of patient safety.
